Bees played an essential role in Greek and Roman religious traditions. They, and the honey they produce, have many symbolic meanings,
to the Greeks  bees were considered to be divine insects, and were revered in their myths and rituals. Among the most celebrated of these myths was the story of the fertility goddess Demeter, also the honey they produce was food for the gods.
